Studio Update: Robocraft

The focus of the studio is to utilize the innovative technologies of today, such as robotics, and create designs that appear to be made with handcrafted techniques (hence the name "Robocraft"). The first phase was developed by researching a natural system, and creating an architectural system through a series of analytical diagrams and abstract reinterpretations. I chose to research the natural phenomenon of a Tafoni, which are sandstone formations that are the result of erosion from natural elements,

Here are some images of my robotic drawing of an abstracted Tafoni. The final drawing took over 4 hours to complete and used a variety of graphite and ink to convey depth and time.

Currently, I'm working on a design for a pavilion using the same line-based system, so check back for the final project outcome. In the mean time, check out this short clip of fabrication tests for the detail prototype.
